The freight train is the first of its kind leaving from Beijing and is carrying 55 40-foot containers loaded with auto parts, building materials, home appliances, coated paper, cloth, clothing and household supplies. The operation of direct freight trains between China and Europe from Beijing has opened up a fast and efficient channel for international trade with the capital, which will promote export-oriented economic development in the capital area.

At present, the four bases for China-Europe freight train services — Mafang Railway Station in Beijing, Tianjin Xingang Railway Station, Xingangbei Railway Station and Shijiazhuang Gaoyi Railway Station will strongly support the integrated economic growth of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and assist in accelerating the region's integration into the Belt and Road Initiative to realize high-level opening-up.

Deng Jie, general manager of Beijing Jingping International Land Port Operation and Development Co. Ltd., said the company will gradually increase the frequency of China-Europe freight train trips in a regular manner. It will also pay more attention to return journeys and transport European dairy products, meat, wine and other goods to Beijing, so as to facilitate the development of Beijing as an international consumption city.
