Beijing bourse hits milestone with 7 million investor accounts

The Beijing Stock Exchange (BSE) saw over 1.56 million investors open accounts in 2023, bringing the total number to about 7 million, according to the exchange. 

In September 2023, coinciding with the second anniversary of the BSE's founding, the China Securities Regulatory Commission released new regulatory guidelines to optimize the BSE.

According to the regulations, investors with transaction rights on the Science and Technology Innovation Board are allowed to open BSE accounts upon signing risk disclosure agreements, which contributed to the growth in investor numbers. 

Following the implementation of the updated investor suitability rules, the top three brokerage firms by number of new accounts opened in 2023 were Guosen Securities, Guotai Junan Securities, and Eastmoney Securities. For cumulative account openings, the top three brokerage firms were China Galaxy Securities, Eastmoney Securities, and GF Securities.
