The digital economy has become a new driver for high-quality development in Beijing, with its added value growing 8.5% year on year to reach 1.88 trillion yuan (US$262 billion) in 2023. This accounted for 42.9% of the city's GDP last year, 1.3 percentage points higher than 2022, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

From January to November in 2023, the revenue of core industries in the digital economy above the designated scale in Beijing's Haidian district amounted to around 2.4 trillion yuan, according to the latest data. Fueled by the sci-tech hub's commitment to advancements in artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, and other fields, a total of 50 companies in the district were ranked among the top 100 enterprises in the digital economy across the city.

The digital economy has also achieved robust development in other districts. Chaoyang district and Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area are striving to build two new growth hubs, with the revenue of core industries in the digital economy in each area exceeding 400 billion yuan.

For example, in 2023, Chaoyang district accelerated the establishment of the Beijing International Big Data Exchange, with a focus on three key industries - industrial internet, artificial intelligence, and digital security. The district also placed emphasis on future industries, including Internet 3.0, digital healthcare, and photonic integrated circuits. This district has attracted the settlement of more than 120 major enterprises.

Moreover, the revenue of core industries in the digital economy in Dongcheng, Xicheng, Fengtai, Shijingshan, Changping, and Pinggu districts all exceeded 100 billion yuan in 2023.
