Watermelon, literally meaning "melon from the west" in Chinese, has become the most beloved summer refreshment for Chinese people. For over 30 years, China has been the world's leading producer of watermelons, forming a vast watermelon industry. In 1995, Panggezhuang Town in Beijing's Daxing District was awarded the title "Hometown of Watermelons in China" by the Ministry of Agriculture.
In recent years, Panggezhuang has pursued the cultivation of premium watermelons, collaborating with multiple research institutions to introduce and cultivate various small watermelon seeds. They have also widely adopted scientific planting methods, such as deep plowing of soil and using biological agents for soil disinfection, to solve planting issues and improve quality, thus achieving an upgrade in smart production in the watermelon town.
