Added value of Beijing's digital economy up 7.8% in H1

In the first half of 2024, the added-value of Beijing digital economy grew by 7.8% year on year, with that of core industries increasing 10.5% year on year, according to the municipal bureau of statistics. 

In the first five months, the R&D expenditure of Beijing's large and medium-sized enterprises increased by 7.4% year on year. Specifically, R&D expenditures on the industrial sector grew by 14.5% and R&D expenditures on scientific research and technical services expanded by 9.4%. The number of invention patents per 10,000 people in the city reached 283, a year-on-year increase of 21.0%.

In the first six months, fixed asset investment in core industries of the digital economy grew by 32.5%, with digital product manufacturing increasing by 69.6%. Digital and intelligent upgrades enhanced enterprises' output efficiency, with the per capita output value of manufacturing enterprises above the designated size using robots increasing by over 10% year on year.

New industries in Beijing played a significant role in driving growth. In the first half of the year, the outputs of high-tech manufacturing and strategic emerging industries above the designated size grew by 9% and 12.9%, respectively, contributing to over 40% and 70% of the growth rates of their respective industries. 

The outputs of new energy vehicles, smart TVs, 5G smartphones, and industrial robots increased by 350%, 87%, 16.9%, and 12.4%, respectively. New business models developed rapidly, with revenue from cultural enterprises featuring new business models from January to May increasing by 13.1% year on year, accounting for 71% of the revenue of cultural enterprises above the designated size, up 2.4 percentage points year on year.
