Beijing's northern Changping district has attracted 2,155 projects under its "two zones" initiative, with 1,365 of these projects already up and running, said Guo Qingyao, deputy head of the district, at a press conference Thursday.

The "two zones" initiative refers to Beijing's initiative for building the pilot free trade zone and the national comprehensive demonstration zone aimed at further opening up the service sector.

Since the pilot free trade zone in Changping was launched, nearly 8,000 new businesses have been registered, bringing the total number of market entities to over 10,000, Guo said.

In May, Changping introduced a work plan to deepen the development of the national comprehensive demonstration zone for further opening up the service sector. Of the 71 tasks outlined, 51 high-impact pilot policies have already been implemented. Notably, reforms in innovative drug approvals have significantly shortened the approval time, with breakthrough lung cancer treatments like Envafolimab and Fluzelesin approved and prescribed in record time.

In the field of synthetic biology, Changping has attracted over 70 companies in areas such as bio-based materials, collagen, and gas fermentation, with 19 projects worth more than 3.5 billion yuan (US$490 million).

Changping is also focusing on the beauty and health industries, launching several key initiatives. Notable developments include the approval of Meitu Moyan for a pilot project in personalized cosmetic services, and the opening of Estée Lauder's first integrated store in Badaling Outlets. The district now hosts 115 beauty and health companies, with the total annual revenue exceeding 10 billion yuan, growing at 22% annually.

Driven by the "two zones" initiative, Changping continues to foster high-quality economic and social development. In the first half of the year, the district's GDP grew by 6.8% year on year, ranking first across all districts in Beijing.
