Beijing registered 1,777 new foreign-funded enterprises from January to November in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 14%, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics.
Among these enterprises, 80% are in the sectors of scientific research and technical services, leasing and business services, as well as wholesale and retail.
During the same period, the operating revenue of foreign-funded enterprises above designated size increased by 4.2% year on year, surpassing the revenue growth rate of all enterprises above designated size in Beijing. Despite accounting for less than 10% of all enterprises in the city, they contributed to over 20% of the total operating revenue.
In 2024, Beijing recognized over 110 new foreign-funded research & development centers, covering areas such as healthcare, information technology, and intelligent manufacturing. In the first 11 months, the R&D expenditures of such centers above designated size increased by 13.1% year on year.
In the first 11 months in 2024, the foreign-funded enterprises in the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone achieved an operating revenue of 1.6 trillion yuan ($218.35 billion), accounting for half of the operating revenue of enterprises above designated size in the zone and over 30% of the operating revenue of foreign-funded enterprises in Beijing.
