Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region hits foreign trade record in 2024

In 2024, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region achieved a record import and export volume of 5.03 trillion yuan (US$704 billion), up 0.1% year on year, marking the fourth consecutive year of growth.

Data from Beijing Customs showed that Beijing's foreign trade volume has consistently accounted for over 65% of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region's total, rising to over 70% in the past three years. Over the past 11 years, Beijing has contributed to 81.8% of the region's foreign trade growth.

In 2024, private enterprises in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region recorded 1.21 trillion yuan in import and export, a year-on-year increase of 8.9%. The share of private enterprises in the region's total import and export value has shown an overall upward trend over the past 11 years and reached a record high of 24.1% in 2024.

As a key hub for China's commodity import, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region imported commodities worth 1.88 trillion yuan in 2024, accounting for 34.7% of the country's total in this category. During the same period, Beijing continued to dominate commodity import in this region, with import value reaching 1.65 trillion yuan, accounting for 87.7% of the region's total.

For the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region imported 146.72 billion yuan in medicinal materials and pharmaceuticals, and 23.42 billion yuan in medical devices in 2024, both increasing by 2.2% compared to the previous year.

In the high-tech manufacturing sector, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region exported 94.03 billion yuan in automobiles, 72.76 billion yuan in mobile phones, and 5.12 billion yuan in wind turbines in 2024, marking year-on-year increases of 56.4%, 24.7%, and 58.3%, respectively.
