Australia's business turnover rose 0.6 percent in January 2025 in trend terms, which is the sixth consecutive rise, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Thursday.
The sixth consecutive rise in monthly business turnover in trend terms has made it the strongest period of sustained growth in the 13-industry aggregate since August 2022, said Zaneta Georgievski, ABS head of business statistics.
The 13-industry aggregate showed a 1.4 percent rise in business turnover in seasonally adjusted terms, with 10 of the 13 industries growing in January, Georgievski said.
The strongest rises were in the professional, scientific and technical services industry, up 4.3 percent, and construction, up 2.8 percent, whereas the largest fall in turnover was in the electricity, gas, water and waste services industry after a large rise in December, statistics show.
Annually, turnover was higher for 12 of the 13 industries included in the indicator, compared to January 2024, with the biggest annual rises in information media and telecommunications, construction, and electricity, gas, water and waste services, Georgievski said, adding the only industry with an annual fall was mining, which was down 11.6 percent.
