As of March 15, ports in Beijing have recorded over 1.9 million inbound passengers this year, with a significant rise in foreign travelers taking advantage of visa-free policies.
To fully implement the policies facilitating cross-border travel, Beijing General Station of Entry and Exit Frontier Inspection has introduced one-stop services for temporary entry permits, reducing processing time to just a few minutes. It has also implemented other efficient procedures to enhance the travel experience.
Last year, Beijing's border agency made travel easier for flight crews by letting them skip certain customs checks and use border gates more flexibly. These measures facilitated approximately 38,000 flights, reducing the total time aircraft spent at bridges by around 34,000 hours and significantly cutting airline operating costs.
With China expanding its visa-free policies to more countries, Beijing has seen significant growth in international visitors. Between the start of year to March 15, over 220,000 foreigners entered using visa-free and 240-hour visa-free transit permits, which was 2.4 times more than the same period last year.
In addition, airports and border authorities have taken advantage of eight new tech applications to boost efficiency, including flight booking early warning systems and automatic fill-in of passenger information. Other such new tools include self-service printing for entry cards and the introduction of electronic boarding passes.
