Translation of "Bigger than Bigger"
Apple Inc. unveiled its latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phones on Oct. 10 with its promotion slogan "Bigger than Bigger" posted on the company's website. Apple's Hong Kong website translated it as "not limited to being big (岂止于大)," a more stylish version than the Chinese mainland website's version: "比更大还更大," which was more literal.
The translation difference ignited a wave of dissatisfaction from mainlanders, who offered their own, and self-proclaimed better versions of the slogan on Weibo and WeChat Moments. The wave of translation attempts managed to force Apple's Chinese mainland business to switch to the Hong Kong translation, bringing the incident to an end.
