Wen Guohui was elected mayor of the south China metropolis of Guangzhou on Tuesday at a session of the municipal legislature.
Wen, 53, is a native of Jiexi County, Guangdong Province. Previously, he has served in such posts as Communist Party chief of Shanwei City and vice governor of Guangdong.
With a permanent population of 13 million, Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong, is one of China's most dynamic and competitive cities.
