Beijing plans to solve the problem of sewage treatment in 760 villages within 3 years, local authorities said Wednesday.

According to Beijing water authority, the city will expand the pipe network of sewage treatment and water recycling plants in urban areas to cover more villages.

Besides increasing sewage pipes in rural areas, the city will also build treatment and recycling plants, artificial wetlands and sewage purification tanks in villages.

At the same time, an online rural sewage treatment facilities monitoring system will be established to supervise the operation of the facilities.

Currently Beijing has some 1,000 rural sewage facilities, which cannot adequately tackle the growing quantity of discharge.
