Yang Dongping, the chief risk officer of the Bank of Communications was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for severe disciplinary violations.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) announced Friday that it had led an investigation into Yang, who was also a senior CPC official at the bank, following approval from the CPC Central Committee.

The investigation found that Yang, who had attempted to resist the probe, had violated the Party's code of conduct.

Also, he had taken advantage of his power and the influence of his post to help private businessmen to secure loans in exchange for benefits for himself or his relatives -- acts that violate the Party's anti-corruption rules, the CCDI statement said.

The CCDI Standing Committee reviewed the decision to expel Yang from the CPC and public office and the decision was approved by the CPC Central Committee, the statement said.

All Yang's ill-gotten gains should be confiscated, it said.
