Top political advisor, Yu Zhengsheng, said Friday that the Chinese government would support exchanges and communication between Chinese and overseas religious circles to promote world peace.

"The government adheres to the policy of ensuring freedom of religious belief and pays great attention to the positive role religious circles play in the promotion of economic and social development," Yu said when meeting with leaders of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP) and the World Conference of Religion for Peace (WCRP), who are in Beijing for the 2017 ACRP executive meeting.

Yu said the ACRP, as an influential inter-religious peace organization in Asia Pacific, has played an important role in promoting mutual respect between religions in Asia, as well as peace and development in Asia and the world.

The government will continue to support China's religious circles to conduct friendly exchanges and communication with overseas religious circles, so as to jointly contribute to regional and world peace, said Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
