Sun Huaishan, a former senior political advisor, is under investigation on suspicion of accepting bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced Friday.

The SPP said Sun has been placed under "coercive measures," which may include summons by force, bail, residential surveillance, detention or arrest.

Sun was formerly a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and head of the Committee for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee.

Investigation into his case is currently under way, according to the SPP.
