A number of tertiary hospitals in Beijing including Beijing Children’s Hospital and Beijing Stomatological Hospital declared on July 4 to officially join the national system for medical insurance reimbursement that covers part of healthcare costs incurred outside the administrative area where insurance is registered.
A total of 101 tertiary hospitals in the Chinese capital have now enabled reimbursement for out-of-town patients, following the previous 19 designated Class-A tertiary hospitals.
Patients who come to Beijing to seek treatment at their designated hospitals only need to pay for the personal part of the inpatient costs, while the medical insurance fund will cover the other part.
Inpatient costs should meet Beijing’s provisions of payment range concerning drugs, diagnosis, treatment and service facilities, as well as payment standards. Beijing Children’s Hospital indicates that the social security card is the only proof of identity for on-site settlement in Beijing, so patients should present their cards when going through in-patient procedures.
Starting from July, designated hospitals for cross-region medical insurance reimbursement will not be confined to those at the tertiary level. In addition, Beijing’s on-site medical insurance reimbursement will cover people who have stayed or worked in Beijing for long time and who are referred from hospitals outside the city.
