Beijing has completed the construction of 65,676 affordable housing units by the end of June, reaching this year’s target of 60,000 units ahead of schedule.

The Chinese capital has also begun building 37,254 affordable housing units, which account for 75 percent of this year’s target.

As one of the first cities using collective construction land for public rental housing in China, Beijing has had five projects under construction with 12,800 units of houses. Additionally, a new channel of building affordable housing units using the land of state-owned enterprises for their own housing projects has also been listed in the city’s building plan this year.

The city is expanding its various supply forms of affording houses, including public rental housing, affordable housing with full or limited ownership, and temporary dwellings for shantytown residents. It will continue to provide rental housing in the next five years, planning to build 500,000 units of houses with a total area of 1300 hectare.

Beijing has taken the construction of affordable housing into its newly introduced system of streamlining public project approval, leading to accelerated launch of the housing projects.
