On Sept. 11, the 12th China Beijing International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo (ICCIE) convened at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. The Xiongan New Area and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Grand Canal made their debuts with exhibitions on their cultural resources and future prospects.

With the theme of “Creativity, Culture, Technology and Wealth,” the ICCIE 2017 gathered the latest achievements of China’s cultural creative industry and attracted high-quality resources from cultural industries worldwide to its events including exhibitions, trade promotions, forums and conferences.

At this year’s ICCIE, the Xiongan New Area displayed its cultural resources, development status and prospects. Its most popular exhibit was the one on its cultural heritage of reed paintings, and the inheritor of the reed weaving technique said he hopes this technique could be revived through new opportunities brought by the Xiongan New Area.

An exhibition of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Grand Canal also made its first appearance to visitors at the main venue, which introduced the current status and future plans for the canal. With an interactive digital media presenting the Grand Canal culture exhibited on a nine-meter-long touch screen, visitors could experience the histories and evolution of the Tonghui River through texts, animations and photographs.

Exhibitors from 26 provinces, districts and cities participated in the expo, showing off local arts and crafts. The exhibition also featured artwork from famous museums from around the world via holographic images, which visitors could interact with.

In addition, the top 16 teams of the 2017 Beijing Cultural Creative Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition displayed their creative work integrating advanced technology with culture, and 21 cultural creative organizations and companies also participated in the expo to display their latest products and explore new business opportunities.

Launched in 2006, the ICCIE has witnessed the takeoff, progression and expansion of China’s cultural creative industry. The previous 11 iterations of the expo have attracted 565 delegations from over 100 countries and regions apart from Chinese delegations, welcomed almost 11 million people from all walks of life, and achieved cooperation intentions, agreements and trade deals worth over 786 billion yuan.
