Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Liu Jingsong on Friday met with representatives of an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Kabul, discussing ways to provide assistance to displaced families, particularly children.
On Thursday, the Chinese Embassy donated items for IDPs at Char Rah-e-Qambar Camp. The donations included chairs, tables, computer desks, aluminum alloy doors and windows and radios.
During the meeting with the IDPs representatives on Friday, Liu said China will continue to contribute in the rebuilding process and economic development of Afghanistan.
The representatives expressed gratitude to China.
"We really appreciate Chinese continued assistance for the Afghans. We receive materials provided by Chinese friends yesterday and the items will help our children to read and write and get better education," a local teacher of the camp, Juma Khan, said.
The IDPs camp in western Kabul is home to about 950 families mostly from southern Helmand province.
In 2017, more than 445,000 Afghans have been displaced by violent conflicts and prolonged insurgency, bringing the number of IDPs in the country to over 1 million.
