Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will cooperate in curbing air and water pollution in the coming 12 months, according to a meeting attended by environment protection officials from the region. The meeting also launched a campaign to curb water pollution in Daqinghe River and Baiyangdian Lake.

The action plan, released at the meeting, says that the region will implement consultation and synchronization mechanisms for ecological protection from July 2018 to July 2019. In protecting the air, the area will mainly deal with industrial plants, open air burning, and dust from construction, road traffic and storage sites, with the help of high-tech tools to monitor and prevent air pollution. To curb water pollution, the region will monitor and inspect enterprises near ponds, rivers and lakes and prohibit sewage discharges there.

In addition, Beijing and Hebei launched a campaign to deal with water pollution in Daqinghe River and Baiyangdian Lake from July 23 to Aug. 23, taking a series of measures including inspections on sewage treatment plants, high-polluted industries such as printing facilities and leather processing plants, in a bid to crack down on violations of laws and regulations in this regard and restore water quality in this region.
