The Defense Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian said at a press conference that military ties are an important part of building a stronger community with a shared future between China and Africa.

"Looking back at history, the Chinese military and the military of African countries have maintained a relationship of sincerity and friendliness," senior colonel Wu said. "Military exchanges and cooperation between the two sides have made historic contributions to helping African countries fight against colonialism and achieve national liberation and independence."

In the future, the Chinese military will continue to assist African countries in independent capacity-building in security and strengthen cooperation in personnel training, logistics and equipment, escort missions, peace keeping operations, medicine and humanitarian aid for peace and stability in the region and around the world, Wu noted.

The triennial FOCAC summit will be held in Beijing on September 3 and 4.
