Three miners were confirmed dead Friday, pushing the death toll to 11, after a rock burst at a coal mine in east China's Shandong Province on Oct. 20, local authorities have said.

Another 10 miners remain trapped in a 74-meter-deep tunnel, which is blocked by a falling coal seam at both ends. Rescuers cleared 24 meters of the tunnel as of 10 p.m. Friday and are working on the remaining 50 meters from both ends.

The accident at Longyun Coal Mining Co. Ltd. in Yuncheng County left a total of 22 people trapped following the rock burst. One has been rescued.

Rock burst accidents are often caused by fractures in rocks due to mining.
