On March 11, the eve of China's Arbor Day of March 12, the Beijing Greening Office named 18 sites for voluntary tree planting across the city. This year, the city plans to complete the voluntary planting of 1 million trees and raise 11 million plants.

According to the office, the 18 sites are scattered in different districts of Beijing, with a total area of 113 hectares.

The sites closest to downtown Beijing are the south part of Wanghe Park in Chaoyang district, which has a planting area of 10 hectares. Other locations, ranging from 0.2 hectares to 4.5 hectares, are on Heqing Road in Haidian district, on Yandi North Road in the Lianshi Lake area of Shijingshan district, and in the Weigezhuang Village of Fengtai district.

Other tree planting sites include Dingdu Peak in Mentougou district, Dongguanshi Village in Changping district, Zhengzhongzhuang Village in Huairou district, Sancha Village in Fangshan district, Beidagou Forest Farm in Shunyi district, Dabolao Village in Yanqing district, and a number of forest farms in Miyun and Tongzhou districts.

The sites are open to voluntary tree planters from the end of March to the end of April. Due to the limited planting areas, tree planters will need to make appointments before they go.

In addition, the Beijing Greening Office has arranged quite a number of tree-adoption sites, which include 34 sites with a total of 593,000 trees available for adopters, 39 green space adoption points with a total of 2.83 million square meters, 32 sites for adoption of ancient trees with a total of 697 old trees. Besides, 21 forest-raising sites are made ready, totaling 1,200 hectares.

Those wanting to learn about the details of the city's voluntary tree-planting sites can check the March 13 edition of the Beijing Daily, visit the Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau website at www.bjyl.gov.cn, and follow the official microblog and WeChat accounts of the bureau.

This year is the 41st China's Arbor Day. Over the past 40 years, more than 100 million people in Beijing have participated in voluntary tree-planting activities in various forms and planted 205 million trees in total.

The voluntary tree-planting sites in all the districts are stepping up preparations for the upcoming tree planting campaign.
