Luohu held a workshop regarding a plan to integrate development of Shenzhen Railway Station and Luohu Port Area on April 26.
The district wants to take advantage of the strategic opportunity of the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to strengthen cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The plan to promote the integration of Shenzhen Railway Station and the Luohu Port Area is aimed at creating a world-class landmark, a new engine of growth for the urban development of Luohu as well as a new symbol of Shenzhen.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Song Yan, a member of the Standing Committee of Luohu District Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said the workshop should discuss the results of the earlier consultations on the planned integration and start planning work as a whole.
The upgrading, renovating and integrating of the two areas should be expedited, so as to usher in a new stage of cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong for Luohu, he stressed.
Zhao Penglin, former director of rail traffic of Shenzhen, and Zhou Jin, chief engineer of Shenzhen planning and land development center, jointly presided over the workshop’s opening ceremony.
Zhao, who is also a special consultant for Xiong'an New Area, a national development strategy in North China’s Hebei province, was appointed as chief consultant for the Luohu work, responsible for coordinating relevant efforts related to technology.
Song believed engaging Zhao in the work would bring about new opportunities to accelerate the transformation of the work from vision to reality.
After the ceremony, six design institutes and companies specialized in city planning and rail traffic design already selected for projects related to the work reported their plans and answered questions from experts and officials.
There were heated discussions on the role of the regional hub, relations between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and urban renewal on the sidelines of the meeting.
On the basis of the discussion, the design institutes and companies and relevant government departments will now draw on the proposals made by workshop participants to create a workable plan.
