Authorities in central China's Hubei Province have built the first 5G smart street-lamp in the provincial capital Wuhan.
Appearing to be a normal street-lamp, the equipment is installed with a camera, a liquid crystal display and a box for light bulbs.
The street-lamp not only hosts a radio base station, but also a number of 5G smart functions, which helps save resources and contributes to building a smart city, according to Xu Hua, who is in charge of 5G-related programs under China Mobile in Hubei.
More such street-lamps mean that locals will be able to experience high-definition video chats, HD video transfer and smooth augmented reality.
China Mobile teamed up with local authorities to pilot 5G services in Wuhan's Jianghan District in January. The 5G coverage for commercial use in Jianghan is expected to be completed in October.
