A symposium on Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy was held in Beijing on Thursday, highlighting the guidance this was bringing to China's diplomatic work.

More than 40 academics from across the country shared their ideas on the essence, implications, philosophical and cultural basis, as well as global significance of President Xi's approach.

The event was jointly organized by the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Guangming Daily, a national newspaper.

Department head Song Tao said at the opening ceremony that the study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, an essential part of the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, was the key to making new advances in the pursuit of major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.

"In this regard, we need to grasp domestic and global trends, work in accordance with the central theme of serving national rejuvenation and promoting human progress, and develop a new form of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice, and win-win cooperation," Song said.

Yu Hongjun, former deputy head of the department, said major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics had great significance for promoting a new international order because it was upholding the construction of an open and inclusive world of lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.

Zhang Zheng, chief editor of Guangming Daily, said the vision of building a community with a shared future for all humanity, a centerpiece of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, was in line with the tide of the times and responded to the wishes of people around the world.

Jin Nuo, Party secretary of Renmin University of China, said the vision represented a new achievement in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context of the 21st Century.

It embodied both Marxist interpretation of historical development, and China's time-honored cultural traditions and long-term policy directions, Jin added.

Xi JinpingThought on Diplomacy was established as the guiding thought of China's diplomacy at the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs held June 22-23, 2018.
