China is pinning hope on young inventors to push forward scientific innovation, a critical component to social progress.

Dozens of finalists received the Soong Ching Ling Award for Children's Invention provided by the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, a philanthropic organization named after China's late Honorary President Soong Ching-ling, also known as Madame Sun Yat-sen, on August 19, 2019, in Beijing.

The award has kept pace with the country's development by lauding young inventors excelling in technologies such as the Internet plus, smart transportation and accommodation, environmental protection and healthcare, as this year marked the inception of the award designated to artificial intelligence.

According to Wang Jiarui, the chairperson of the foundation, young people should aspire to explore the mystery of science which can offer exciting and mesmerizing experiences to those involved.

Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut who embarked on a trip to space in 2003, joined the event with other luminaries, including, Zheng Haixia, a famous Chinese basketball player and Zhong Man, an Olympic fencing champion.

"I strongly believe your dreams will eventually come true, as long as when setting your mind free to the starry sky, you still remember there is work to be done step by step," Yang said in his keynote speech.
