About 82.5 percent of the respondents in a recent survey agreed that traditional Chinese culture is essential to Taiwan's culture, according to the survey report released Thursday.

The survey was conducted by ETtoday, a Taiwan-based news website, from Dec. 23 to 25 and sampled 1,886 respondents in Taiwan aged above 20, the survey report said.

About 87.1 percent of the respondents expressed concerns about the reducing competitiveness of Taiwan's cultural products and entertainment industry, including TV shows, music and films, the survey said.

And 80.1 percent agreed that authorities should spend more resources to support the cultural industry.
