Disinfection is an important means to cut off virus transmission and contain the epidemic, but excessive disinfection is unnecessary, an expert with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Sunday.
Feng Luzhao, a researcher with the CDC, said at a press conference that the novel coronavirus is sensitive to ultraviolet rays and heat and can be inactivated by solvents such as 75 percent ethanol and chlorine-containing disinfectant.
But disinfection should be done according to relevant standards to avoid excessive operations and potential risks, he said.
