A new program for global young leaders, initiated by Center for China and Globalization (CCG) and Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, was launched in Beijing on Tuesday.

The newly launched Global Young Leaders Dialogue (GYLD) aims to develop a community to drive positive cross-cultural dialogue and communication for global opinion leaders from diverse regions, sectors, disciplines, cultures and professions, according to CCG, a leading Chinese non-government think tank.

"Via open and extensive exchanges, we seek to bring together enterprising, globally minded men and women under the age of 45, to debate and formulate action plans, proposals, and innovative solutions to the world's most complex challenges," said Miao Lu, vice president and secretary general of CCG.

Miao introduced that in the future, GYLD will develop programs including annual forums, workshops, seminars and symposiums, and joint research. 

"Longer-term GYLD plans also include scholarships and grants, exchange programs and talent competitions in which young leaders could travel globally to meet their counterparts in person," she added.

"2020 has been a year of great disruption for the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At present, young people are confronted with a planet that has many challenges," said Amakobe Sande, interim United Nations Resident Coordinator of China, in a video message to the launch ceremony.

Amakobe Sande noted that young people's potential must be amplified because they are "agents of change, proposing innovative solutions and driving social progress, all to make the world a better place."

Guo Weimin, vice minister of the State Council Information Office, stressed that the future of the world is in the hands of the younger generation. 

He added that China's development will not only provide a larger stage for Chinese youth, but also for young people from all over the world to deploy their talents.

The GYLD project is a solid platform to promote exchanges and dialogue among outstanding global youths, Guo said.

Du Zhanyuan, president of China International Publishing Group (CIPG), said that young people are an important force for promoting global dialogue, multilateral cooperation and providing innovative solutions to global challenges.

Noting the responsibilities of young people, Du stressed that young leaders should take the lead in opposing unilateralism and protectionism, and actively propose new approaches for global governance reforms and solutions to international challenges. 

Building a better world requires continuous effort by younger generations and a global outlook, Du added. 

Organized by CCG and supported by UN China and Schwartzman Scholars of Tsinghua University, the launch ceremony attracted nearly 100 outstanding young people from more than 20 countries, international organizations, multinational companies, universities, think tanks, media and other fields.
