Experts of domestic and international academies and think tanks discussed a wide range of topics related to Tibet under the theme "Peace and Development" at a symposium held both online and offline on Sunday.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet, said Wang Linggui, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), adding that Tibet has scrapped absolute poverty with strong support from the whole country.

Facing the common challenges of human development, experts from different countries should extend communication and cooperate closely to identify solutions, Wang noted.

Tom Grunfeld, an honorary professor for Outstanding Teaching of State University of New York, said Western scholars' study scope on Tibet has been growing, and the Tibetan language and religion of the region remain the most popular areas.

The experts also discussed topics including the achievements of Tibet's development, the environment and coordinated development of the Himalayan region, as well as the culture and history of Tibet.

The symposium was hosted by two institutions under the CASS, namely the Tibet Think Tank and the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology.
