The 2021 Conference of China Public Relations for Development, hosted by the China Public Relations Association (CPRA), was held both in-person and online in Beijing on Dec. 18.
Themed on "Ecological Civilization: Innovative Practice and International Communication," the conference was a chance to share the story of China's ecological development.
Qiu Qiwen, vice minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said that the conference's focus on sharing the practical experience and promotional initiatives that guide China's ecological progress, not only highlights the country's environmental protection story but also boosts global ecological development.
Qiu added that China should strengthen its promotional efforts so that the world can better understand and recognize its concepts for an ecological civilization.
Guo Weimin, CPRA president, noted that China's ecological advancement embodies the people-centered governance philosophy upheld by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government.
Effective international dialogues about China's ecological civilization can help the global community understand China, promote international exchanges and cooperation, rewrite some of the untruths Western countries spread about China, and better present China's image as a responsible major country, Guo said. He also suggested there should be good content, innovative channels and collective efforts to communicate China's hard work in ecological protection, thereby improving the global environment.
Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, executive secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, lauded the significance of China's ecological civilization concept via video link and recognized China's success in hosting the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15).
She underscored that effective communication figures prominently in promoting biodiversity conservation, by bringing such issues into public discussion and encouraging active participation in tackling biodiversity crises.
In addition to government officials, representatives from the media, universities, think tanks, public relations firms and enterprises also attended the conference, and shared their insights into boosting international communication about China's ecological advances and inspiring public contributions to its ecological preservation efforts.
During the conference, the CPRA officially released a proposal titled "Build a Beautiful China, Protect Our Planet: An Initiative to Advance Ecological Civilization Underpinned by Public Relations."
The CPRA advocates vigorously promoting the philosophy of ecological civilization, boosting ecological progress in a professional manner and staying committed to following eco-friendly practices, so as to safeguard the well-being of people in China and the world beyond.
