A video of middle school students walking 54 kilometers in total to sweep tombs went viral on the internet on Saturday, attracting the attention of netizens in China.

Setting off at 4 am on Saturday, more than 2,300 students and teachers from two different schools walked to the Renshanhe Martyrs Cemetery in Guyuan city, Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, People's Daily reported on Sunday.

The students swept tombs, paid respects, and offered wreaths in memory of the martyrs buried there.

The Battle of Renshanhe is known as the "first battle to liberate Ningxia" during the War of Liberation (1946-49). 74 years ago, 391 martyrs braved rain, snow, and hail, fighting bravely against the enemy and ultimately laid down their lives at Renshanhe.
