Beijing's trade with African countries reached 332.2 billion yuan ($46.6 billion) in 2023, up 2.3% from the previous year and 847.8% since 2000, according to Beijing Customs. This accounted for 16.8% of China's total African trade.
Over the past 23 years, Beijing's trade with Africa has grown an average of 10.3% annually, underscoring the deepening cooperation between China and Africa, especially in clean energy and climate change mitigation.
In the first seven months of this year, Beijing's exports of the "new trio" — photovoltaic products, electric vehicles, and lithium-ion batteries — to Africa reached 143 million yuan, accounting for 24.4% of the city's total exports in these three sectors.
High-tech products are increasingly prominent in Beijing's exports to Africa. Beijing companies exported 10 billion yuan in goods to Africa from January to July, up 31.5%. High-tech goods made up 30.2% of exports, rising 1.2 percentage points from 2023 and 25 points from 2000.
Exports of information technology products, automobiles, and electric power equipment to Africa showed strong growth. Mobile phone exports rose 60.6% from the previous year, while computers and components surged 463.3%. Flat panel display modules increased 33.4%, automobiles 18.7%, and wind turbines 80.6%.
