Beijing has dispatched 1,063 medical professionals to assist in 12 countries and regions, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission said on Wednesday. Of the total, 945 medical professionals have been sent to countries in Africa.

By the end of last year, Beijing's medical teams had provided treatment to about 830,000 patients and performed 209,000 surgeries. The teams also conducted a number of advanced procedures that were done for the first time at their assigned locations.

Beijing's first medical team arrived in Guinea in June 1968. Over the years, 30 groups have provided medical aid there. "We have frequently worked with local doctors to treat critical cases," said Song Xiantao, leader of the 30th medical team to assist Guinea. From September last year to June, the team performed 236 surgeries, including 26 new procedures for Guinea, such as emergency coronary angiography and stent implantation.

In addition to providing treatment, the team has trained Guinean doctors to provide advanced procedures, including cardiovascular and laparoscopic techniques. In July, with the team's assistance, the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital established several specialized medical centers.

The China-Guinea Friendship Hospital is emerging as a leading medical center in Guinea and West Africa, according to the Beijing Municipal Health Commission. Beijing's medical teams will continue to facilitate the export of domestic medicine and medical equipment, develop remote medical services, and promote long-term cooperation in healthcare between China and Guinea.
