The Luohu District Civil Affairs Center in Shenzhen has launched the second session of the Elderly Care Skills Training Program for 2024. Themed "Dementia Care Techniques and Infection Prevention Requirements," the training aims to enhance the quality of elderly care services in both Luohu District and its partnered region, Longlin County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The two-day program attracted 270 participants, including staff from elderly care institutions in Luohu, family caregivers, caregivers from Longlin, and individuals interested in pursuing a career in elderly care. Renowned experts in the field were invited to provide comprehensive and practical knowledge, covering the six core techniques for dementia care and standardized infection prevention procedures.

In the dementia care section, instructors used vivid case studies and advanced theories to explain six key techniques: daily living assistance, psychological support, cognitive training, sleep and routine adjustment, medication monitoring, and empathy-driven care. Emphasis was placed on the importance of empathy in meeting the unique needs of dementia patients and improving their quality of life.

Regarding infection prevention, the instructors used visual demonstrations and hands-on examples to illustrate crucial steps such as cleaning and disinfection, hand hygiene, and personal protective measures. The goal was to ensure participants could proficiently apply these procedures in their daily work to maintain a safe environment in care facilities.

Group discussions and interactive sessions encouraged active participation, allowing attendees to share experiences and insights on common issues faced in dementia care, thereby enhancing teamwork and collaboration. Instructors also offered targeted advice on caring for elderly individuals with disabilities, advanced age, or other health challenges, helping participants develop a well-rounded skill set in elderly care.

This training program not only equips caregivers with essential skills but also strengthens the elderly care capabilities in Luohu and its partnered regions.
