On Sept. 10, China's 40th Teachers' Day, China announced the 2024 "Most Beautiful Teachers," recognizing individuals and teams for their outstanding contributions to education. Li Xiaokun, a professor at Wenzhou Medical University was among the award recipients.

Li, also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was awarded for his pioneering work in the field of growth factors technology. He has set up a unique talent-training mode in biopharmaceutical field, winning two second prizes for teaching achievements in China.
He discovered and elucidated the mechanism of the FGFS family in relation to metabolic diseases, and led the world in developing various new drugs on tissue damage and regeneration repair. These drugs have benefited over 97 million patients. The manufacturing procedures and quality standards for FGFs have become the national standard in China's trauma repair field.

Li said he believes that students and young team members can make greater contributions at the forefront when they are provided with a fertile "soil," foundation, "runways," funds and opportunities. Under his guidance, his students have begun to shoulder the responsibilities in the biomedical field. One of his doctoral students, Chen Gaozhi, has published papers in the top international journal Nature, revealing the molecular mechanism of endocrine formation of FGF activation receptors for the first time in the world.

Li has also initiated the charity "Skin Regeneration Project," conducting 165 charity activities with his students across five provinces and regions, including Qinghai, Xizang, and Shaanxi, benefiting over 50,000 people.
Li said, life is a marathon, not a sprint, and only when one focuses on his goal without being questioned or distracted can he succeed.
