On Thursday, the new Dawang Bridge opened to traffic. The bridge is expected to enhance the road network in the Dawang and Wutong Mountain areas, improving overall accessibility.

The Dawang Bridge spans 232.732 meters, featuring a 215-meter network arch with suspenders, making it Shenzhen's longest single-span bridge. The bridge is 20 to 22.5 meters wide, with a two-level structure: the lower level has a four-lane roadway and pedestrian paths, effectively doubling traffic capacity and eliminating bottlenecks while enhancing safety.

The upper level features a 6.5-meter-wide greenway, which will connect with the Taojin Mountain and Wutong Mountain greenways, completing a 30-kilometer loop around the Shenzhen Reservoir.

Visitors can enjoy scenic views of Wutong Mountain above and the shimmering waters of the Shenzhen Reservoir below. This bridge project is a significant step in Luohu District's to build Shenzhen into a park city, with greenway construction in full swing.

"The new Dawang Bridge will improve the traffic flow and make it much more convenient for Dawang residents and visitors to Wutong Mountain and Dawang Village," said a local resident surnamed An.

As the only route into the Dawang area and Wutong Mountain Scenic Area, the previous Dawang Bridge had aged and could no longer support the growing traffic demands. Reconstruction of the bridge began in February 2023, facing challenges such as a tight schedule, complex environment, and technical difficulties. Measures were taken to protect the Shenzhen Reservoir from contamination during construction.

The bridge's slender, network arch structure is aesthetically pleasing, efficient, and cost-effective. The layout maximizes traffic flow within the existing secondary water source protection zone. Through innovative design and water protection measures, they ensured safety, economic efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The Dawang Bridge sits in the Greater Wutong Ecological Zone, a key municipal area, which features Wutong Mountain, Shenzhen Reservoir, and Xianhu Botanical Garden. It's an ecologically focused, low-density development zone aiming to foster eco-friendly industries.

With the opening of the Dawang Bridge, the Greater Wutong Ecological Zone will continue to enhance its transport infrastructure, attracting more visitors and investors, ultimately transforming the area into a hub of urban charm, cultural tourism, commerce, and community well-being.
