The 2024 World Science and Technology Development Forum (WSTDF), set for Oct. 22-24 in Beijing, will focus on "Science and Technology for the Future." The event aims to showcase cutting-edge innovations and highlight the pivotal role of young scientists in advancing scientific and technological progress.

Since its inception, the forum has prioritized creating opportunities for young scientists. This year's event places a strong emphasis on international collaboration, aiming to bridge the gap between emerging researchers and global scientific leaders, including Nobel and Turing Award laureates. These interactions are expected to provide valuable guidance and lay the groundwork for future cooperation.

The forum has continued its tradition of youth engagement. In its first year, the conference introduced the "Growth of Young Scientists and SMEs" parallel session, followed by the "Young Elite Scientists Summit" in its third year. These initiatives have created valuable platforms for young talent to share insights, learn about relevant policies, and broaden their academic perspectives.

A highlight of this year's forum is the new "Youth and Teens Exchange Area," showcasing young scientists and emerging teenage talents. These participants will present their research through poster displays and engage directly with seasoned experts. This initiative promotes intergenerational collaboration, offering young scientists rare opportunities to interact face-to-face with experienced professionals.

Young scientists grapple with limited funding, scarce resources and pressure to stay focused in fast-changing fields. Gao Wen, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said patience and persistence are key. Gao, who also directs Pengcheng Laboratory, urged young scientists to maintain curiosity and commitment to their chosen paths, noting that many groundbreaking innovations stem from years of probing the unknown.

Beyond their contributions to innovation, young scientists are becoming crucial drivers of global sustainable development. Their strong academic foundations, innovative thinking and sense of social responsibility position them as key contributors to global progress. As the 2024 WSTDF draws near, young scientists are looking forward to engaging in insightful conversations with both their contemporaries and experienced researchers. For these emerging innovators, the forum offers not only a celebration of scientific excellence but also a platform to enhance their academic skills and bring fresh ideas to global conversations on sustainable development.

The 2024 WSTDF provides an opportunity for young scientists to explore cutting-edge technologies, cultivate international partnerships and contribute to global innovation. It is poised to be a launchpad for the next generation of scientific talent to advance international collaboration.
