The Beijing E-sports Innovation and Development Conference, a key event of the "E-sports Beijing 2024" initiative, was held at the Shougang Convention and Exhibition Center in Beijing on Dec. 11.

During the event, officials unveiled the 2024 Beijing Esports Industry Development Trend Report and the Beijing Esports Talent Rating Standard, outlining future innovations for Beijing's esports industry.

According to the report, competition for top esports resources is intensifying as major cities worldwide increasingly recognize the sector's economic potential. Beijing, with its established tech advantages and talent pool, has prioritized the sector in recent years.

The new talent rating system establishes industry benchmarks in four key categories: senior management, technical innovation, cultural communication and operations.

The standard fills a gap in evaluating high-level talents while offering a scientific and fair assessment method.

Looking ahead, the city aims to strengthen its position as an esports hub.

Zhang Yuhao, secretary-general of the Beijing E-sports Industry Development Association, said the association will work with various districts to introduce Beijing's event classification standard next year.

"By integrating esports with cultural resources, physical infrastructure and diverse industries, Beijing can advance the concept of 'esports+' to promote the high-quality development of the city's cultural sector," said Song Yangyang, vice dean of the Institute for Creative Industries Technology at Renmin University.
