Beijing is welcoming its first wave of visitors following China's major expansion of its visa-free transit policy. The permitted stay for eligible foreign travelers has been extended from the previous 72 and 144 hours to 240 hours (10 days).
The policy, which took effect immediately, adds 21 new ports for visa-free entry and exit, while expanding the areas where transit travelers can stay, according to Tuesday's announcement.
Citizens from 54 countries, including Russia, Brazil, Britain, the U.S. and Canada, can now enter China without a visa when transiting to a third country or region. These travelers can enter through any of the 60 ports across 24 provinces, regions and municipalities, and stay within designated areas for up to 10 days.
To ensure smooth implementation, Beijing's border inspection authorities have enhanced their services with improved signage, multilingual support teams, and specially selected officers fluent in foreign languages. These measures help international travelers easily access information and navigate the visa-free entry process efficiently.
