The Moon River Market Fair in Beijing's Tongzhou district, running from Dec. 28, 2024, to Feb. 12, 2025, is offering residents a wide array of options for New Year shopping, bringing holiday vibes into the city. The sales volume in the first four days totaled 200,000 yuan (US$27,399).
Renowned as the largest outdoor market in eastern Beijing, the fair attracted over 10,000 visitors daily during summer weekends. This winter, it continues to bustle with energy, drawing crowds with diverse offerings from more than 100 food booths.
Beyond the food court, shoppers can explore a wide variety of New Year goods. They can indulge in Tongzhou's specialty fried crunchy rolls, sample dates from neighboring Hebei province, or savor meat and dairy products from Inner Mongolia. Snacks from China's southwest region add even more variety to the food scene. Holiday decorations, handcrafted items, daily essentials, and children's toys are also among the many options available.
The market also features a photography studio adorned with Chinese knots and mascots of the Chinese Zodiac Year of Snake, attracting visitors to capture festive moments with their families.
As Spring Festival approaches, the market will host activities showcasing intangible cultural heritage, allowing visitors to experience traditional customs firsthand.
