In 2024, Beijing established 100 eldercare service centers in its sub-districts and townships, benefiting 1.55 million elderly residents, including 320,000 seniors aged 80 and above, according to the municipal civil affairs authority.

These eldercare centers coordinate local resources to provide a wide range of services. Basic offerings include residential care, meals, education, recreation, and counseling. The centers also offer extended services such as volunteering programs, disease screenings, and public welfare education.

Spread across all 16 districts and the Economic-Technological Development Area, the centers collectively provide 5,698 affordable beds, with fees for accommodation, meals, and nursing set below the average prices of regional care providers.

The centers serve approximately 198,000 meals monthly, and are provide long-term home-based care services to nearly 2,000 seniors.

To enhance efficiency, an information platform will soon be launched to gather care requests, connect them with service providers, and monitor service delivery throughout the process.

The city plans to establish an additional 50 eldercare service centers in its sub-districts and townships within the year, the authority said.
