As winter deepens and the Spring Festival approaches, the National Aquatics Center in Beijing is welcoming the new year with an ice sports extravaganza, promising a festive holiday season filled with thrilling activities and special deals.

In December 2024, the venue introduced limited-time discounts on annual and seasonal skating passes, quickly becoming popular among skating enthusiasts. On Dec. 29, it hosted a new year-themed event for ice sports fans, featuring curling experiences, ice games, and an ice-themed dancing party, creating memorable moments to ring in the new year.

As the winter holiday and the Year of the Snake draw near, the center is expanding its offerings this January. Alongside its popular attractions — such as the "Honor the Water" light show and the dual-Olympic exhibition — the venue will introduce a variety of winter camps and sports training programs, leveraging its Olympic heritage to promote a healthy lifestyle among young people.

During the Spring Festival season, the venue's South Square will transform into a winter wonderland featuring an ice and snow carnival. Highlights include a 3,000-square-meter snowfield, a magical ice-and-snow-themed exhibition, and programs that blend traditional and modern sports experiences. A market featuring intangible cultural heritage will also be a key attraction. The venue's souvenir shop will debut new offerings, including commemorative gold coins and collectible figurines, while existing cultural and creative products will showcase upgraded designs.

In collaboration with several art museums, the venue will add a shadow play exhibition to its offerings. This exhibition will feature intricate shadow puppetry and paper-cutting artworks, enhancing the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year. Visitors can also engage in interactive activities within the venue, including traditional costume and makeup experiences, a Lunar New Year market, and themed photo booths.

Thanks to support from Beijing's ice and snow consumption season initiative, the National Aquatics Center has emerged as a hotspot for winter sports enthusiasts, offering themed activities and discounted programs. It has ranked as the city's most popular skating rink for three consecutive months on online life service providers, including Meituan Dianping.

Since opening in 2022, the venue's underground Ice Sports Center has welcomed approximately 220,000 visitors, establishing itself as a landmark ice rink in the city.
