Beijing has installed over 260,000 lanterns and 2,969 scenic lighting installations across the city for the upcoming Spring Festival, marking the celebration's first year as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The decorations follow a "one area, two axes, multiple points" layout, centered on Tiananmen Square and extending along Chang'an Avenue and the Central Axis to key areas, including railway stations, major commercial districts, landmarks and main roads. Backstreets, communities and residential areas have also been decorated.
The city has reused existing lanterns and decorations while refreshing displays with digital projections and interactive technology. The reuse rate for scenic items is approximately 58%, while that for lanterns is about 68%.
A total of 256 decorations featuring traditional crafts have been included, such as paper cutting, lanterns and kites, alongside cultural elements like the Chinese snake zodiac sign, couplets, New Year paintings and window paper cuts.
Tech-driven light shows will be staged at 10 Beijing landmarks, including the Central Radio and Television Tower and the Olympic Tower, featuring digital projections, holographic fans, smart lighting and AR displays. Interactive photo zones will further enhance the festive atmosphere.
