The Dongmaling section of Honggang Park in Shenzhen's Luohu District opened to the public on Wednesday. Designed to harmonize natural ecology with urban industrial development, the park exemplifies the integration of nature and city life.
Honggang Park plays a critical role as a key connection point in completing the main ecological ridge of Shenzhen. Spanning 26.8 hectares, the park underwent significant upgrades, including the construction of a forest gateway, a hillside lounge, cliffside pavilions, scenic lookouts, vibrant valleys, a countryside trail, and various supporting facilities.
Honggang Park is a vibrant urban-nature park that incorporates multifunctional spaces to cater to diverse activities and experiences. With iconic attractions such as nature exploration paths, scenic viewing platforms, social gathering spots, and green recreational areas, the park serves as a shared space for both residents and visitors.
The park is divided into two main areas, Dongmaling and Ximaling, featuring three urban entrances, three scenic platforms, and a countryside trail. Dongmaling includes the "Forest Gateway," a primary entrance that offers tiered forest paths, multi-functional lawns, and spaces for exhibitions, leisure, and art displays.
At the summit, the "Hillside Lounge" features a 270° panoramic viewing platform and provides an ideal location for enjoying Luohu’s city skyline. Meanwhile, the countryside trail along the ridge offers an immersive ecological experience, allowing visitors to connect with nature.
Ximaling complements Dongmaling with additional attractions, including the northern gateway "Hillside Junction," which serves as a gathering space with grassy meeting areas, plazas, and vibrant playgrounds. The "Cliffside Pavilion," an elevated viewing deck, provides sweeping views of the Yulong district, while the "Peak Lookout" offers stunning perspectives of the Qingshui River skyline. Ximaling also includes a "Science Exploration Camp," featuring interactive facilities such as a science center and birdwatching stations, making it an ideal destination for families and children.
As a critical link along Shenzhen’s 200-kilometer Kunpeng Path, Honggang Park connects previously fragmented ecological points, creating a continuous green corridor. Two newly constructed eco-bridges link Yinhu Mountain, Honggang Park, and Weiling Mountain, facilitating wildlife movement, including rare species such as leopard cats, while enhancing the city’s ecological integrity.
The park’s development adheres to sustainable principles, minimizing excavation and tree relocation. Natural restoration techniques were employed to preserve the forest, creating a vibrant outdoor space that accommodates visitors of all ages.
Honggang Park also embraces innovative themes centered on the digital economy and the automotive industry. Situated across from the Qingshui River Digital Economy Industrial Zone, the park integrates cutting-edge technologies such as big data, IoT, and cloud computing into its design. Features like the Digital Plaza, 5G Nature Sound Pavilion, and Cloud Computing Garden provide interactive opportunities for visitors to learn about digital advancements. Additionally, the park incorporates elements celebrating automotive culture, offering exhibits and spaces for industry events such as car shows.
With its seamless integration of natural, cultural, and technological elements, Honggang Park sets a new standard for urban parks, providing a vibrant and inclusive outdoor space that fosters both ecological preservation and industrial innovation.
