On Wednesday, Feidong county in Hefei city, eastern China's Anhui province, held a traditional lantern performance to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year.
To celebrate the Year of the Snake, a 128-meter-long illuminated snake-shaped lantern was brought to life by over 100 performers with their intricate movements.
Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008, the snake lantern combines folk art, music, dance, handicrafts, beliefs, and oral literature.
According to its inheritors, preserving this cultural legacy not only honors the past but also boosts local income and supports rural revitalization.
The event also unveiled plans to further develop the snake lantern brand, including creating themed cultural products, immersive experiences, and educational programs.
The snake lantern performance will continue at various locations in the province and conclude on March 1. The Chinese New Year falls on Jan. 29 this year.
