The Chinese capital launched a movie subsidy initiative during the Spring Festival, with the Beijing Municipal Film Administration collaborating with various ticketing platforms and financial institutions

From Jan. 29 to Feb. 16, a total of 32.5953 million yuan (US$4.56 million) in movie subsidies was allocated, marking a year-on-year increase of 73.79%. These subsidies benefitted 3.52 million movie visits, up 54.72% from the previous year.

During the campaign, Beijing's box office revenue totaled 605 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 63.18%, ranking first among all cities in China. A total of 10.23 million movie visits were recorded, up 60.91% year on year. Both box office revenue and movie visits reached all-time highs, making Beijing the most active movie consumption market in the country.

To enrich the cultural life of Beijing's citizens during the holidays, the city launched Spring Festival subsidized movie screenings in 2023. This year, the initiative adopted a collaborative approach, combining government funding and multi-party participation from the market, while innovating in the ways of subsidy, offering various forms of discounted tickets to moviegoers.
