CHANGCHUN, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Continuous rains have affected over 5,500 people in northeast China's city of Linjiang, which borders the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the municipal flood control and drought relief headquarters said.

Torrential floods triggered by the storms, which started to hit northeast China on Wednesday, have flooded seven townships in Linjiang, the headquarters said.

The local government has relocated 864 people as a result of the flooding. No casualties have been reported.

The floodwaters have submerged expressways, river banks, bridges and caused portions of several roads to cave in.

Direct economic losses resulting from the storms are estimated to be 87.51 million yuan (about 13.71 million U.S. dollars).

The municipal government has sent rescuers and relief supplies to disaster-affected areas. Enditem
